Blog Post 1: What and Why

Welcome to Mostly Honest Mabel’s New & Used Game Emporium’s page for Sheep: The Game. You might be thinking, “Wow, that’s a mouthful,” and you’d be right. We can’t think of another small business with such a long name. If you think it’s a bit too long, feel free to shorten it to Mostly Honest Mabel’s. We do. In fact, we’re not sure if Joe’s or Bethany’s parents even know the full name of the business, since Bethany punches Joe’s shoulder every time he starts prattling off the name.

Joe came up with the name. That is, he came up with an incredibly similar name that was just a bit too hard for the tongue. Bethany changed a few words and removed one syllable to arrive at: Mostly Honest Mabel’s New & Used Game Emporium, a name that is as memorable as it is ridiculous.

Now that you know our excessive name, know our simple mission: To remind and/or convince people that playing games together is fun. That’s it. Neither of us consider ourselves “geeks,” and we don’t believe that tabletop games are just for geeks. Gaming is an inclusive activity that can be appreciated by all types of people. It’s like going out with a friend for coffee and a chat. Why do people do that? To reconnect, engage face-to-face, share a laugh, get a change of scenery, and add dimension to one’s day. Real-world social engagements can enrich and gratify, especially if they are with people you like and involve organizing sheep into familial groups.
